Gilt-y Week!

Target--
Right now (until 4/18/09), Target has an offer going on where if you buy two select Women's clearance items you GET ONE FREE!!! I think this is a DYNAMITE deal considering there are so many amazing Target items out there right now. Here are some of my favorites (from the Alexander McQueen line) that I want to grab up when I get paid tomorrow!

I love this top -- I think it would super cute with some skinny black jean and super high stillettos or with black shorts and a bright color wedge shoe (maybe like a patent yellow -- just something I would do):

Here is the dress version:

And speaking of some more asymmetry, I also love this top:

Gilt--
Okay, next up is the big one. Gilt Groupe has some AMAZING sales coming up this end-of-the-week, including, today, Part One of of its Final Sale! If you get Gilt updates, I think this week is a must for purchases. One of my "musts" will be happening tomorrow when the Final Sale Part Two will be taking place. The reason? Well, tomorrow, Cacharel clothing will be on sale. I am in love with this clothing line and can never afford the clothing as sold on Gilt, but can especially not afford the clothing as sold on other websites. So tomorrow, I am hoping that they really really really discount the Cacharel sweater with the Eiffel Tower (if it is even available) or one of the cute dainty Cacharel shirts with fun buttons and piping (if those are even available as well).

When Saturday rolls around, though, THAT is when I'm going to be flipping out! On Saturday, Gilt will be having its Jewelry and Accessories Final Sale. What is one of the featured brands? Cynthia Vincent! Finally!!! Maybe I will have a chance to score the adorable shoes I once thought I scored on Hautelook, but then they suddenly ran out of them :( I'm crossing my fingers! I would also love to get some Cynthia Vincent flats with floral fabric, but who knows what will be available! Here are some of my Vincent favorites:

The Payless Option

Today, at approximately noon, Gilt will be holding a sale which includes, amongst other items, CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN shoes!!! My heart kind of sunk when I learned this earlier in the week because I currently do not have the funds to be purchasing $100+ shoes.

Shoes are a girl's best friend -- well, this accessory is certainly a best friend of mine. And there are countless times in which we enter a department store, view a shopping website, or see women walking down Fifth Avenue, and realize that the shoes on display are TOTALLY out of our price range. So, quite recently, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that designers like Lela Rose, Abaete (I LOVE Abaete), and Alice + Olivia were designing shoes and accessories for Payless. The weekend after I learned of this exciting news, I traveled to the Payless in Port Washington, Long Island to see these marvelous shoes and accessories (and to see if they were really a good bargain). When I got there (after getting lost), I was so disappointed to learn that the store in that part of Long Island was not a Payless fashion hot spot and did not carry those designer lines of shoes and accessories. So I got into my little car and drove all the way to another Payless on Long Island (I believe it was in Westbury) which ALSO did not carry the desired products!

Low and behold, I ultimately journeyed to the Roosevelt Field Mall Concourse level where I was SO delighted to see the designer products at Payless that I almost hugged the saleswoman (who definitely thought I was crazy)! (Did I mention that I did all of this driving in a snowstorm? Yeahhhhhhhh, it was quite the adventure!) I ended up purchasing 4 pairs of shoes. Two of those pairs are featured in this blog entry. The light green pair of Lela Rose peep toe pumps are featured on top and the Abaete partial wedges are feature right here. Each pair was under $30 and they are super comfortable, super cute, and super discounted. And, they seriously look like high-end shoes from Nordstrom or Bloomingdales.
What I'm trying to say is that if you want a fashion forward designer pair of shoes, the Payless partnership with designers is outstanding and an amazing alternative to the $300 real thing. I'm not saying ONLY buy these shoes, but they are a great and inexpensive way to liven up your wardrobe (and get lots of compliments)!

Tricks

Just a little something I wanted to share.

For a long time, my eye makeup would always end up smearing like whoa. I mean it - eye liner would bulk up on the sides of my eyes, mascara would leave huge dark circles under my eyes. It wasn't good. And as a woman with oily skin, this was just bound to happen! So, I've figured out what works best for me, and my eyes, and I wanted to share it with you.

1) Only apply mascara to your top lashes. I have avoided so many unwanted rings of makeup under my eyes by no longer applying mascara to my bottom lashes. And the truth is, no one realizes it! The other option, of course, is merely using clear mascara on top and bottom lashes. But I do realize that sometimes we lovely ladies want a dash of drama and so dark mascara on the upper lashes is the way to go!

2) Do not use eyeliner pencils, cream eyeliner, anything like that. For me, what works best, is using a q-tip and plain old eye shadow. Yes, people on the subway think I'm crazy when I'm using a q-tip to apply eye makeup in the morning, but it works! No more crazy smearing! Just take the very tip of the q-tip, dab it ever-so-slightly in the eye shadow of your choosing (I have brownish blackish eyes, so I love black eye shadow, purple eye shadow, and dark blue eyeshadow.). Tap the q-tip a couple of times so that any loose particles fall off. And simply use the q-tip, gently, like an eyeliner stick around your eyes. This works really well for me and I hope it works for you, too!

3) Use an eyebrow brush -- I recently started using one (I have very full eyebrows) and I LOVE it.

4) This many may disagree with. I find that eye shadow ALWAYS gets into the creases of my eyelids. So, instead, I suggest applyings some pretty shimmery shear type of color right under your eyebrow and then apply a very natural shade on the lids of your eyes (maybe something closer to your skin color). That way you don't have random stripes of really dark shadow in your eyelids. I would definitely save the crazy deep colors for nights out!

5) And, I always dab a tiny bit of concealer right under my eyes midday to cover up any particles that may have gathered there.

That's about it! I hope you found this helpful!!

Bargain Hunter

I can't help it - I am a bargain hunter. Maybe it's because there's a thrill in getting a great bargain, maybe it's because I'm a law student and can't afford full price items, or maybe it's because it's like a little sport. Anyway, I love a good bargain. And I'm always on the lookout for good promo codes, coupons, discount codes -- whatever you want to call them! So today, because I, once again, don't have photos for you, I have a list of some of my favorite discounts going on right now! Enjoy!

I'm not sure how expansive the discount is (if it's only in NYC and Long Island, NY), but CVS is currently having a great makeup sale. Specifically, when it comes to Revlon products, it is selling Revlon Matte Lipstick as 2 for the price of one (so $7.99 for two gorgeous lipsticks -- I ultimately got 4 for the price of 2). I am a MAJOR matte lipstick fan and when I found out a couple of months ago that Revlon was doing a line of matte makeup, I flipped! Milani makes a great matte lipstick, but I can't seem to find it in stores anymore. I also really like Nars' matte lipstick and Bobbi Brown makes an AWESOME lip color which is a little matte -- but of course, Nars and Bobbi are on the expensive side. So, low and behold, here are the Revlon colors I bought yesterday:

Today I am wearing the Mauve color and it's very chic, yet work appropriate.

While it's not the most amazing discount of them all, Target currently has a promotion where it will take $5 off your online purchase of $50 or more. In addition, you can get free shipping on certain purchases.
http://www.target.com/

Right now, Kohls is offering free shipping on purchases of $75+. And let me tell you, it is easy to spend $75 on several amazing quality items from Kohls -- it all comes down to Vera Wang's Simply Vera line.

I own one skirt from this line and, let me tell you, it has held up SO well. It is probably the most comfortable skirt I own (it's a grey pencil skirt from about a year ago) and looks as good as new to this very day!

Those of you who know me know that I LOVE the designers (Lela Rose, Abaete, etc.) for Payless lines (pictures of my purchases soon to be posted). I just saw the below bag is on sale and think it is quite sleek and modern:

I love the metal details and the zipper (so your personal belongings are nice and safe and unexposed). And what is great about Payless is that it has the free in-store shipping option - so nice!

Well, I think that's about it for now. I hope I made your shopping even a little more economical. I'll REALLY make sure to post some photos soon. For now, happy shopping!

The Start

A few months ago, I was exposed to Target's "GO International" line. I realize that this line has been popular for quite some time, but this is when I first REALLY saw the clothes and learned about the line's mission and all. I love fashion. Maybe it's more that I think we are all canvases - beautiful canvases - on which we can add ribbons and bows and color and paint and ultimately transform into art. Living art. We can use fashion to create living art. I have always loved watching Bryant Park fashion shows on my tiny tv at home; loved watching how brilliant designers transform human beings into walking art. And so this is where I turn back to Target. How Target connects with some of these brilliant designers in order to make available great fashion - great art - to the masses. Yes, I know, some will argue, "Is it really the same? Is it really the same great fashion that we saw on the runway at fashion week?" I happen to think that some pieces are really dynamite, are just as great. But of course, many out there might differ. Nontheless, however (as I babble here in my first blog entry -- I'm nervous about what some may say(!)), I love what Target has done. And Target (as well as Walmart (Norma Kamali line), H&M, and the many many many other stores/brands that have partnered with famous and/or up-and-coming designers), has sort of been my inspiration for this blog. I know I have sort of thrown a lot at you at once (I just can't help myself), but I guess I just want to talk to you, my dear audience, about my love of fashion, art, and everything creative (even if it's in the most scattered way possible). I want to share with you some of things I've found/I find so that, maybe, we all can have a more playful, pretty, fashionable - a more artistic time in this world.

While I don't have photos in this entry, I hope to use my mighty camera in the future and capture beautiful art - beautiful fashion - in my next entries. In the meantime, here are some links to some of my favorite fashion pieces that I wish I could afford! :)

And for the non-Target version of Beamon...
